The jungle of a thousand faces

I booked into the public hospital near our home as soon as I found out I was pregnant with our first child thirteen years ago. On the day of our booking interview, my husband and I sat with the midwife to fill out what seemed like an entire book of our lives.

  • Be prepared to share your most personal details
  • You will be giving your midwives a family tree of your history
  • And it will mark the start of your antenatal care

Antenatal care is an experience you will either love or hate! If you dare go into the jungle…keep on reading.

Sitting in the waiting room in comfy pants, my husband and I peered around the crowded room of oversized tummies and anxious faces ~ the jungle of a thousand faces!

Happy faces, curious faces, and angry faces cast their glance in effortless style around the room and there were some who became tired of waiting the endless appointments and left without a care.

The antenatal room is a ferris wheel of drifting thoughts, glowing, blooming, pregnant ladies.

  • Some people will choose to see their own Doctors if antenatal care does not fit with their lifestyle
  • From the interview process and onward are monthly visits to the midwives clinic if everything is going well
  • There are rubella, urine, bloodtests to be had
  • Routine altrasounds (I realised early that I did not need to drink the full amount of water required)
  • For every pregnancy I have always been given a yellow card to keep, with recorded information from each visit to antenatal or Doctors appointments. It records your weight, blood pressure, baby’s heart rates, and any aother important information and updates during your entire pregnancy.

In the jungle of a thousand faces you will experience the world of people on a daily basis, those you may not know; telling you their ideas of parenting. I always choose to take positive ideas and the ideas that make me the mum I want to be, and create harmony for the good of my family.

Go out into the world

Be brave

Be strong

Smile for the world to see

Be the shining parent you are meant to be

Believe in you
